Benefits of an Aluminium Boat

Considering what material you’d like your boat to be made from?

We recommend an Aluminium build… and here’s why!

Lightweight: Aluminium is a lightweight material, creating a vessel which is easier to launch, tow, and retrieve. It also makes construction of a vessel a lot easier and is more flexible in terms of moving it around in a workshop, meaning fewer hands are needed.

Cost Effective: Although an aluminium boat may require higher costs initially compared to other boat types, they work out to save you money further down the track. For example fibreglass and Timber hulls deteriorate over time, an steel hulls may be cheaper but will require sand blasting and paining. There is money to be saved in repairs, maintenance and thus an Aluminium boat will have a higher resale value.

Corrosion Resistance: Aluminium boats are well suited and durable in marine environments. Aluminium has a natural resistance to corrosion, even when exposed to salt water or salty mist.

Low Maintenance: Aluminium boats are super low maintenance they are corrosion resistance, and require less maintenance than boats made from other materials like fibreglass or wood. They do not require constant repainting or extensive care to combat rust and deterioration. And unlike wooden boats they aren’t effected by sunlight, rot, worms or rust.

Ease of repair: Although unlikely if an aluminium hull does become damaged it is super simple to fix, with the damaged section usually cut straight out and a new section welded in. It is a simple, cost effective and relatively fast process to do.

Ease of building: Aluminium is similar to working with steel, with aluminium however being much lighter allowing for easier cutting, faster work and more flexibility in moving it around a workshop. standard woodworking power tools can be used on aluminium to saw, plane or drill, although we recommend using special aluminium blades for efficiency.

Durability: Aluminium is a durable, tough material and can withstand the potential impact of rough handling. This makes them suitable to various water conditions and activities. Aluminium can become dented or scratched however structurally they are secure, unlike fibreglass boats that can crack or break. Aluminium has high resistance to impact damage due to the flexibility and durability, making it ideal for rivers or waters were rocks become hazards.

Longer Lifespan: The blend of corrosion resistance material and durability contributes to a long lifespan of an aluminium boat. With proper care, they can last for many years, providing a good return on investment.

Resale Value : Aluminium boats generally have a high resale value. This is due to the longer lifespan and all the other amazing benefits that come with owning an aluminium boat. Even non-operable aluminium boats have value as savage for the basic aluminium, they will be purchased and cut up for scrap.

Fuel Efficiency: Aluminium is a lighter material than other boat materials such as fiberglass or steel. This reduced weight can lead to improved fuel efficiency, making them more economical.

Customization Options: Aluminium is a super versatile material that allows for various design and customization options. At CNC Marine we can easily customise designs for out kits to create different hull designs and configurations, the use of aluminium allows us to provide this option.

Trailering: The light weight of an aluminium boat reduces the tow requirements and allows the use of a smaller and lighter boat trailer. As well as potential for a smaller vehicle to town the trailer.

Sustainability: When nesting our designs onto aluminium we try and nest as many parts on each sheet to not only reduce costs but to also reduce wasted materials. Aluminium is also recyclable, recycled aluminium retains its quality, so even if you do have a few scrap pieces left over you can always recycle the scraps. The high resale value of aluminium boats and aluminium itself means that fewer boats are abandoned or left in sandbars to rot.

For us Aluminium boats stand out as the optimal choice in the construction of a boat, which is why we make them!
