A Purpose-Built Vessel for River Restoration
Designed by CNC Marne and built by Lennox Head Engineering, the 5323PT Punt was created specifically for OzFish Unlimited’s river restoration work on the Richmond River. The vessel was developed around the unique requirements of environmental restoration in shallow waterways, where access, stability, and working space are critical.
With its flat-bottom design, open deck layout, and practical working platform, the boat provides volunteers and project teams with the ability to safely transport equipment, deploy habitat structures, support oyster reef restoration, and carry out important on-ground restoration activities in areas that are difficult to access with conventional vessels.
The design process focused on creating a purpose-built work boat that could maximise efficiency while supporting the hands-on nature of OzFish’s restoration projects. Features such as the low draft, wide-open deck space, and low sides were incorporated to make it easier for users to access the water and work directly on restoration sites.
Built to commercial standards by Lennox Head Engineering, the 5323PT combines practical marine design with robust local fabrication, creating a dependable platform that will support OzFish’s ongoing efforts to restore healthier waterways throughout the Northern Rivers region.
This project represents the collaboration of engineering, design, local manufacturing, and community-driven environmental action. From the initial concept and design discussions through to fabrication, launch, and operation, the vessel was developed with a clear purpose, to provide OzFish with the right tool for the restoration work they do every day.
The 5323PT Punt is more than just a boat; it is a purpose-built asset that will help increase the scale of restoration projects, support volunteers, and contribute to the long-term health of local river systems.
