Sherwood’s 5010RA Build: From the Course to the Crab Shed

Meet Sherwood — a no-fuss builder from Darwin who decided to take boat building into his own hands. After completing our 4-Day Boat Building Course in Newcastle, he didn’t waste any time. With a CNC Marine 5010RA kit in the shed, a welder ready to go, and zero social media distractions, Sherwood got to work.

“The boat took 26 welding days so far, and I reckon with one more day and two pairs of hands, we’ll be ready to move into coating and fitout.”

That’s what we love to hear.

Sherwood’s been steadily building in his Darwin shed — no drama, just momentum. The 5010RA is our forward control runabout, a popular option for fishos and crabbers alike, especially up north where practicality meets heat and humidity. And Sherwood’s approach? All business.

What’s Next?

He’s nearly there. Next on the list:

– A 2-part epoxy satin clear coat
– A custom aluminium trailer build
– Motor fit-up and electrics
– And, because why not — a cheeky reno on the crab shed while he’s at it

He’s planning to head back to Darwin for five weeks later this year to finish the project. We’ll be catching up with him in October for launch photos once the boat hits the water.

Sherwood isn’t one to make a song and dance — but his feedback after the Newcastle course says it all:
