Based in Oregon US, Torch Craft Marine has grown from a personal project into a busy boatbuilding operation. Founded in 2020, the company may be relatively new, but its roots run much deeper.

Owner Troy began building boats for himself and friends while running a steel fabrication shop, long before turning that passion into a full-time business. His first aluminum jet boat was built using parts he cut on a DIY plasma table. About a year later, a friend built one as well, and the two spent their time running local rivers.

A turning point came during the 2019 flood, when Troy took his boat out in high water conditions. A news helicopter captured him navigating along a local highway in shallow water, and the following day he was featured on national television, including an interview on Good Morning America. That exposure led to a surge in interest, and inquiries have continued ever since.

Troy brings nearly 30 years of experience in welding and fabrication to the business. His background includes digital imaging, CAD drawing, prepress design, welding, advanced welding, and electrical work. Prior to launching Torch Craft Marine, he owned Oregon Torch Craft, a custom sign and metalwork company where he spent over five years producing CNC-cut metalwork for customers across the country.

When the first boat orders came in, growth happened quickly. The shop was soon outgrown, and Torch Craft Marine has since moved into its third location in six years. The current facility allows for larger builds and greater flexibility as the business continues to expand.

The team has built boats from several different designers, but Troy notes that CNC-cut designs stand out for their accuracy, clear instructions, and precise fit-up. Maintaining quality across builds is a priority, with employees trained to identify potential problems early, along with structured pre-delivery inspections and sea trials for every boat.

Looking ahead, Torch Craft Marine plans to expand beyond jet boats. With its location well suited for both recreational and commercial fishing, the business sees opportunity in building larger vessels. Troy is particularly interested in taking on more small bay boats and offshore builds in the future.

Outside of the shop, Troy’s passion for building carries into his lifestyle. He enjoys fishing, off-roading, and spending time outdoors in Oregon, often exploring in his own jet boat.
